Antique Chinese Canopy Bed with Alcove
Handmade at the end of 19th. century in Cixi (Ningbo), Zhejiang Province.

Description:
Antique Chinese canopy bed manually made of elm wood, abundant hand-crafted carvings and complex bone inlays. With canopied alcove and additional small roof up front composed with 3 framed pictures.
Acquired 1990 at the Antique Store in Qufu (Shandong Province) and brought to Germany in 1992. At first time-consuming restored in Frankfurt, afterwards assembled in Wiesbaden and finally moved to Schweinfurt/Bayern in 2020.
Composed of ca. 88 individual parts, all plug-in connected and assembled without any metal. Both inner and front roof have 4 hooks, where most probably lampions had been attached long before.
The overall condition is good and wear consistent with age of more than 120 years.
